Infrastructure in KSA is average in the most part, with transport links, hotels healthcare and telecommunications all of a reasonable standard in and around the major urban centres. That said, the country has recognised the need to update its core infrastructure in many areas. There are good flight options from most global regions into the country, whilst a causeway links KSA with Bahrain as an alternative means of entering the country. Due to its harsh, desert environment, roads and other links to non-urban areas are less well developed. Several new mega-projects to improve the infrastructure in key areas are underway including the Riyadh and Mecca Metro networks and airport expansion projects. Overall it is estimated there are on-going infrastructure projects worth more than US$450 Billion across the country.
