Female participation in business is a hotly debated issue within Nigeria, with many local and governmental initiatives in place to try to bolster the number of women in management positions.  The very fact that these initiatives are deemed necessary gives a good indication that there is a problem at the moment.

Most middle-ranking and senior managers you meet in Nigeria will be men and although foreign female mangers will generally be met with great courtesy, they run the risk of not being taken as seriously as their male colleagues (even if their male colleagues are junior to them).
